Getting started with Tap & Scan

Tap & Scan gives your church one link that every tap chip and QR code points at. You never reprint a sticker to change where it goes: you just pick a new destination in the dashboard, and the next tap lands there.

Before you begin

  • You need access to the Tap & Scan area (an admin, or someone who has been given that area).
  • To change destinations, you need permission to manage Tap & Scan. With view-only access you can see what is live but not switch it.

Every chip you write and every QR code you print encodes the same permanent web link, which looks like churchday.co/api/tap/... with your church's own code on the end. That link never changes. What changes is where it sends people, and you control that from the dashboard.

Because the link is fixed, you can order stickers once, place them around your building, and reuse them forever. A tap or scan follows the link, and Churchday instantly forwards the person to whatever destination you have made live.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Tap & Scan. In the dashboard menu, click Tap & Scan (the NFC icon). The tagline at the top reads "One link your chips and QR code point at. Change where it goes, live."
  2. Check the Live now card. At the top of the page, the Live now card, marked with a small pulsing green dot, shows exactly where taps go right now.
  3. Find the Tap to make live list. Below the card is the list of destinations you can switch between. It is single-select: only one row is live at a time, marked with a green Live badge.
  4. Click a row to make it live. The switch takes effect on the very next tap. The Live now card updates to match.

Built-in destinations

Two destinations are always available, even before you add anything of your own:

  • Church page. Your public home base. This is the default: whenever nothing else is live, taps land here. It is a good resting state between events.
  • Check people in. Sends taps into your check-in flow so people can sign in on arrival. This becomes available once you have an upcoming event with check-in turned on.

Add your own destinations

  1. Click Add link. The button sits in the top-right of the Tap to make live list.
  2. Pick from your church. Choose one of your events, a page or form, or your Give giving link.
  3. Or paste any web address. Click Add a custom link to point at anything outside Churchday, such as an outside sign-up or a shared document.

Each destination you add joins the list, ready to make live whenever you want.

Good to know

  • A tap never dead-ends. If the live destination is removed, an event is unpublished, or a link points nowhere, the tap quietly falls back to your Church page instead of showing an error.
  • The link always lives on churchday.co. That stays true even if your church has its own custom web address, so the same chip works everywhere and signed-in members are recognized.
  • Switches are instant. Nothing is cached, so you can flip the destination in the middle of a service and the next person to tap lands in the new place.
