Control how your church page looks when shared (link preview)
When someone pastes your church page link into a text message, Slack, or a social post, most apps unfurl it into a little preview card with an image, a title, and a short description. The Link preview settings let you decide exactly what that card shows, so your church looks polished everywhere your link travels.
Before you begin
- You need access to the Church tab.
- It helps to already have a cover image and an About paragraph set on your church page, since those act as fallbacks. See Edit your church page header.
Step-by-step
- Go to the Church tab. Open your dashboard and select Church.
- Open the Settings sub-tab. Along the top you'll see Church, Analytics, and Settings. Click Settings.
- Find the Link preview section. It's described as "What people see when your page is shared in a text message, Slack, or social post." At the top is a live Preview card that mirrors how iMessage, Slack, and Facebook will render your link, so you can see your changes as you make them.
- Set your Preview image. Click Upload image (it becomes Replace image once one is set) and choose a picture. The recommended size is 1200 × 630. If you don't upload one, we'll use your cover image, and if there's no cover image, your logo. To go back to those fallbacks, click Remove.
- Enter a Title. This is the bold headline on the card, up to 70 characters. Leave it blank to use your church name.
- Enter a Description. This is the smaller line under the title, up to 200 characters. Leave it blank to use your About text.
That's it, there's no Save button. As you type, the title and description save on their own about a second after you stop, and the image saves the moment you upload or remove it.
Good to know
- The image saves right away; the text saves after a short pause. The preview image is stored the instant you upload or remove it. The title and description save automatically about 800 milliseconds (under a second) after your last keystroke.
- Staying under the limit matters. Each field shows a character counter. If you go over 70 characters for the title or 200 for the description, the counter turns red and saving pauses until you trim it back down, so nothing gets cut off unexpectedly.
- Keep the most important words first. Even with a 200-character description, sharing apps usually show only about the first 155 characters before trimming with a "…", so put the key message up front.
- The fallbacks make you look good by default. If you never touch this section, your link still previews nicely using your cover image (or logo), your church name, and your About text. Customizing here just gives you more control.
- The preview card is a true mirror. What you see in the Preview card is the same image, title, and description that iMessage, Slack, and social posts will pull from your link.
