Editing, Renaming, and Deleting Saved Audiences

An audience is a saved group of people that updates itself as your people change. Once you have one, you can adjust its filters, rename it, or delete it whenever your needs shift. This article walks you through each of those.

Before you begin

  • You need access to the People tab.
  • You should already have at least one saved audience. If you don't, start with Creating a saved audience.

Open a saved audience

  1. Go to People. Click People in the dashboard sidebar.
  2. Open the Audiences tab. Along the top of the People page, click Audiences.
  3. Find your audience. Each row shows the audience name, a live count of how many people match it right now (the number next to the people icon), and when it was last updated, like "5d ago." Type in the Search audiences box to narrow the list by name, or scroll to find it.
  4. Click the audience. Its detail page opens and lists everyone who currently matches.

Adjust who is in the audience

  1. Click Edit Filters. This button is on the right of the action bar, just under the audience name. The filter builder opens below it.
  2. Change the conditions. Add, edit, or remove filters. As you work, watch the live count at the bottom of the builder: it reads "N people match" and updates as you make changes.
  3. Click Save filters. Your new filter set is saved, and the list of people refreshes to match.
  4. Click Hide Filters to collapse the builder when you're done. Collapsing does not save anything on its own, so click Save filters first if you want to keep your changes.

Rename an audience or edit its details

  1. Click the "…" menu. It's in the top-right corner of the detail page.
  2. Choose Edit audience. A pop-up window opens.
  3. Update the Name and Description. The description is optional.
  4. Click Save. The new name and description appear right away.

Delete an audience

  1. Click the "…" menu, then Delete.
  2. Read the confirmation. The pop-up warns that this cannot be undone.
  3. Click Delete to confirm. You return to the Audiences tab.

Deleting an audience removes only the saved filter set. It never deletes any of your people. Everyone stays in your directory, with their tags, registrations, and history untouched.

Good to know

  • Audiences stay current on their own. The member list always reflects who matches right now. People who start matching the filters show up automatically, and people who no longer match drop off. There's nothing to re-run.
  • The detail page has its own search and bulk actions. Use the Search members box to find someone, or select several people to act on them together.
  • Email All opens the email builder so you can start a new message.
  • Each person's row has a "…" menu with Email, Edit, and Delete. The row's Delete permanently removes that person from your church, including their tags, registrations, and activity history, and cannot be undone. That is very different from deleting the audience, so use it only when you truly want to remove the person.
