Ask first-time visitors a question at check-in
When someone signs up to check in for the very first time, you can ask them a short question, like whether they're just visiting or would like to get connected. It shows only to brand-new people, so returning members are never asked again.
Before you begin
- You need access to edit your church's events and check-in. A tap-only volunteer won't see this card.
- Your Tap & Scan check-in needs to be set up so people can sign in with your link or QR code.
Step-by-step
- Go to the Tap & Scan page. Open Tap & Scan from the dashboard, then scroll down to the Check in section.
- Find the Check-in sign-up questions card. Just below Smart check-in, you'll see a card titled Check-in sign-up questions. Its note reads: "Ask first-time visitors a question when they sign up to check in. Shown only to new people, below name, email, and phone."
- Turn on the switch. Flip the switch on the right side of the card. The first time you turn it on, Churchday creates the check-in form for you and adds a starter question ("Which best describes you?") that you can keep, edit, or replace. A Questions editor appears right underneath.
- Add a question. Click Add question. Enter the question wording, choose an answer type, and switch Required on if visitors must answer it. Click Add question to save it.
- Edit or reorder your questions. Click Edit on any question to change it. To change the order, drag a question by its handle. The order you set is the order visitors see.
- Delete a question. Click Edit on the question, then click Delete in the pop-up window.
Good to know
- Choice answers can send people to a group or tag. When you build a multiple-choice question, each answer option can automatically add the person to a group or tag. That's a simple way to route newcomers into a "Newcomers" group without any extra follow-up work. See auto-tagging from form answers.
- New people only. These questions appear only on the genuinely-new sign-up form. If Churchday already recognizes the person (a returning member checking in), they're never shown the questions.
- Shown below the basics. Questions appear under the name, email, and phone fields on the sign-up form, so people fill in who they are first.
- Turning it off keeps your work. Switching the card off simply hides the questions from check-in. Your form and every question stay saved for the next time you turn it back on.
- Answers land on the person's profile. You won't get an email for each sign-up. The answers show up on the new person's profile, so you can review them whenever you're ready.
