Quick-Filtering Your People List (and Ask AI)
Sometimes you just want to see a slice of your people right now, like everyone in the youth group or everyone who joined last month. The People list lets you narrow the view on the spot, either by hand or by asking in plain English.
Before you begin
- You need access to the People page.
- Ask AI is available to admins only, and only when your church's Churchday has AI turned on. If it isn't, asking a question shows a short message telling you to have an admin turn it on.
Step-by-step
- Go to the People page. Open People in the dashboard and stay on the All tab, which lists everyone in your church.
- Click Filters. The button sits at the right end of the search row. It opens a small panel where you build your conditions.
- Add your conditions. Click Add filter, then pick a field (like a tag, an event, or a join date) and a value. The list narrows as you go, and a small number appears on the Filters button showing how many conditions are active.
- Adjust or add more. Keep adding conditions to tighten the view. Remove any single condition with its X. Removing the last condition closes the panel and clears the filter.
- Or click Ask AI instead. The Ask AI button sits just left of Filters. It opens a box where you type what you want in everyday words, for example "people born last month" or "Youth group regulars."
- Reference your own tags and events. While typing in the Ask AI box, type
/to pull up a menu of your tags, groups, events, and fields, so the AI matches the exact ones you mean. - Click Ask. Churchday reads your question and fills in filter conditions for you. They appear as the same editable chips in the filter panel, so you can fine-tune anything it got slightly wrong.
Good to know
- These filters are temporary. There is no Save button on the People list. When you leave and come back within the same browser tab your view is remembered, but it is not a permanent group.
- To keep a slice for reuse, build it as an audience. Go to People > Audiences > New audience, rebuild the same conditions there, give it a name, and click Create audience. That version auto-updates as your people change. See Creating a saved audience.
- The search box works on its own. Typing in the search box matches by name, email, or phone number, separately from your filter conditions. You can use search and filters together to narrow twice.
- Ask AI shows its reasoning. After it answers, it explains in one line what it built. If it wasn't sure, it flags the part it interpreted loosely so you can double-check.
