Respond to a serving request (for volunteers)

When your church schedules you to serve, they send you a request to accept or decline. You can respond straight from the email or after signing in, and you can change your answer any time before the shift.

Before you begin

  • You need to be on a serving team. If your church has not added you to one yet, your volunteer area shows You're not on a volunteer team yet, and there is nothing to respond to.
  • A request only shows up after your church notifies you. Until a leader sends it, the slot stays hidden, so you will never see a shift you were not actually asked to fill.

Respond from your email

  1. Open the serving request email. It tells you who is asking, the position, and the date and time.
  2. Tap Accept or Decline. Either button opens the Respond to your shift page in your browser. You do not need to sign in.
  3. Confirm your choice. Tapping Accept confirms you right away, and you see a You're confirmed message. Tapping Decline opens a short form instead.
  4. Pick a reason, if you declined. Choose one of the preset reasons, or choose Something else to type a short note. A reason is optional. Then tap Send decline.

Your leader sees your answer the moment you send it. The link in your email stays active until the shift, so there is no rush.

Respond while signed in

  1. Go to your church's page and open the Volunteer section, or open your personal home page and find the Volunteer requests list near the top.
  2. Find the request card for the shift. It shows the church, the event, the position, and the date.
  3. Click Accept or Decline on the card.
  4. Choose a reason, if you declined. A Decline this request? window opens with preset reasons like Can't make it that day, Schedule conflict, and Out of town, plus Other reason to type your own. Your team lead sees whatever you pick when they review the response.

Change your answer

Changed your mind? You do not have to start over.

  • On a request card, the button now reads Accepted or Declined with a small arrow. Click it and pick the opposite choice to switch.
  • On the emailed Respond to your shift page, tap Change response at the bottom to update your answer.

Good to know

  • Adding a reason when you decline is always optional, but it helps your leader plan who to ask next.
  • The same request can show up in more than one place (your email, your church page, and your personal home page). Responding in any one of them updates them all.
  • If your link says the invitation cannot be found, the shift may have been cancelled or the request withdrawn. Reply to the email to let your leader know.
