See a person's activity timeline

Every person's profile keeps a running history of what they've done with your church, when they joined, the events they registered for, the emails they received, and more. The Activity tab lays it all out on a simple timeline so you can catch up on someone at a glance.

Before you begin

  • You need access to the People page. If you don't see it in your sidebar, ask an admin to grant it.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the People page. In the left sidebar, click People to see your full list of contacts.

  2. Open a person. Click anyone's row to open their profile.

  3. Click the Activity tab. On the profile you'll see three tabs: Overview, Activity, and Settings. Click Activity to see the timeline.

  4. Read the timeline. Entries are grouped by day, newest first. The most recent groups are labeled Today and Yesterday, and older ones show the full date, like Sun, Apr 26, 2026. Each entry has the time of day on the right, so you can see exactly when something happened.

What you'll see on the timeline

Each line is written in plain language. Common entries include:

  • Joined the church: when the person was first added.
  • Registered for [event] and Checked in at [event]: event activity. The event name is a link you can click to jump to that event.
  • Tagged as [tag]: when a tag was added.
  • Joined [group or team] (with the role, like "as Leader") and Left [group or team].
  • Role changed to "[role]" in [group]: when someone's role was updated.
  • Updated [fields]: which profile details were edited, such as "Updated phone, email."
  • Received "[subject]": an email you sent them. A small note follows if they engaged: · opened, · clicked, or · bounced if it didn't reach them.
  • Submitted [form]: when they filled out one of your forms.
  • Volunteer scheduling: lines like Invited to serve as [role] for [event] on [date], plus when they were reminded, accepted, or declined.

Who did it: attribution

Most entries tell you who was behind the action, shown in gray after the description:

  • · by [name]: a specific admin or staff member did it (for example, tagging someone or sending them an email).
  • A friendly source when the person did it themselves or it happened automatically, such as · via public Subscribe form, · via QR code, or · via import.

If Churchday can't tell who acted (usually on older records), it stays quiet rather than guessing.

Good to know

  • Everyone has a starting point. A Joined the church entry always shows, dated to when the person was first added, even if nothing else has happened yet.
  • Email history is always current. The Received entries are built straight from your sent emails, so opens, clicks, and bounces stay up to date without anyone logging them by hand.
  • Nothing here yet? A brand-new contact with no history shows a short "No activity yet" message. It fills in on its own as they interact with your church.
