Finding Upcoming, Past, and Requested Events
The Events page is your home base for everything you have on the calendar. This article walks you through the two views, the sections that group your events, and where to find events members have asked you to add.
Before you begin
- You need admin or staff access to the Events area.
- To open Event settings (the gear icon), you also need access to your church's settings.
Open the Events page
Go to Events from the dashboard. The page is titled Events with the subtitle "Manage your church events and registrations."
In the top right you will find:
- New event button to start a brand-new event.
- A gear icon that opens Event settings, where you set the defaults for new events. This only appears if you can manage your church's settings.
Switch between list and calendar
Next to those buttons is a switch for how your events are laid out. When you are on the list, it reads Calendar; click it to see a month grid. When you are on the calendar, it reads List; click it to go back to the timeline of cards.
Churchday remembers your choice, so the next time you open Events it opens in the same view you left it in.
Read the list view
The list view is a timeline of event cards, grouped into sections so the right things sit at the top:
- Drafts appear first. These are events you are still working on that have not been published yet, so they never get buried under everything else. (Drafts do not show up on the calendar view.)
- Upcoming events come next, sorted with the soonest at the top.
- Past events sit at the bottom and are dimmed, so finished events stay out of your way while you can still scroll back to them.
Each card shows the event's category label, the name, the date and time, the location, and a stack of profile photos of who is going. If the event has a cover image, its thumbnail sits on the right of the card. Click any card to open that event and manage it.
Read the calendar view
Switch to Calendar to see your published events on a month grid. Use the Today button to jump back to the current month, or the left and right arrows to move between months.
- Click a day to see what is on that date and to quickly start a new event on it.
- Click an event to see a quick summary (date, time, location, and how many people are registered) with a View event link to open it.
Find requested events
If members have asked to add their own events to your church calendar, a Requests section appears at the top of the page with a count of how many are waiting. Each entry shows the event name and who requested it. Click a request to open it and review the details before you approve or decline it.
This section only shows up when there are requests waiting, and only for team members who can edit events.
Good to know
- Repeating events land on the right date. For an event that repeats, the card and calendar show its next upcoming date, not the day the very first one happened.
- Nothing yet? If you have no events at all, the page shows a "No events yet" message with a New event button to create your first one.
