Set default settings for new events
Every new event you create starts from a set of defaults. Setting them once means you don't have to repeat the same choices on every event, and you can still change any of them on an individual event later.
Before you begin
- You need access to your church's settings to open this page. If you don't see the gear icon described below, ask an admin for access.
Step-by-step
- Go to the Events page. Open Events from the dashboard.
- Click the gear icon. It sits in the top-right corner next to the New event button and opens Event settings.
- Set the Default visibility. Open the Default visibility menu and choose who can see new events by default:
- Public: anyone with the link can see the event.
- Members: only signed-in members of your church can see it.
- Private: hidden from your public calendar and shared only with the people you send it to.
- Turn Require registration on or off. The Require registration switch decides whether new events come with sign-ups turned on. Leave it on if most of your events collect RSVPs; turn it off if most are come-as-you-are.
Your changes save automatically as you make them, so there's no Save button. You'll see a brief "Saved" confirmation each time.
Good to know
- The menu and switch save the moment you change them. There's no Save button to click.
- These are starting points, not locks. Everything here can be changed on any individual event in the event editor. Setting a default just saves you from choosing the same thing every time.
- There's no payment default here, on purpose. Where a paid event sends money is set on the event itself, every time, so the amount and the destination are always chosen together by whoever set up that event. See Charging for events.
