Sending a Quick Email with the Simple Composer

Sometimes you just want to send a short, personal note to a group of people, the way you would in Gmail. The simple composer lets you do that in a quick pop-up window, without building a designed email with blocks and images.

Before you begin

  • You need access to the Email tab.
  • Decide who this email is for. The simple composer is meant for people who registered for something or opted in to hear from you, so it is a great fit for follow-ups and personal notes.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to the Email page. Open the Email tab from your dashboard.
  2. Click Create email. You'll find this button in the top right of the page.
  3. Choose Simple email. In the menu that drops down, pick Simple email (described as "A quick personal email, like Gmail"). The other choice, Email builder, opens the full block editor for designed emails with your branding.
  4. Review the compose window. A pop-up window titled Email from [your church] opens in place. It has three rows: a To row showing who will receive the email, a Subject line, and the message area below.
  5. Choose who receives it. The To row starts on All contacts. Tap that row to open the recipient picker and narrow it to a specific group. The count on the right shows how many people are included.
  6. Add a subject. Click the Subject line and type what the email is about.
  7. Write your message. The message area opens with an empty line at the top and your signature already filled in below it (your name and your church name). Type your note on the empty line above the signature. You can edit the signature or leave it as is.
  8. Send a test first (optional). Click Test to send a copy to yourself so you can check how it looks before it goes out.
  9. Click Send. When you are ready, click Send to deliver the email to everyone in the To row.

Good to know

  • Your work is saved automatically. The moment the compose window opens, the email is saved as a draft. If you close the window and come back, your subject, message, and recipients are still there.
  • The footer has three buttons. Delete (the red trash icon on the left) throws away the draft, Test sends a copy to yourself, and Send delivers the email.
  • Send stays greyed out until there is something to send. You need either a subject or real content in the message. A picture on its own counts as content, so a photo-only email can still send. If you just added an image, wait a second for it to finish uploading before Send becomes active.
  • No unsubscribe box appears in the body. Because simple emails go to people who registered or opted in, they skip the visible unsubscribe footer that designed campaigns include. A one-click way to unsubscribe is still added automatically, so recipients can always opt out.
  • Want a first draft written for you? The message area includes a "Write with AI" option that can draft the note for you.
